I’m thinking about a new name

I think with the change of direction that God has given me and put me into children’s ministry I am thinking about changing the name of this blog. Basically the word “Charis” is the Greek form of the word grace and a description of the favour of God or the blessing of God. That is what I am about, a free gift that I do not deserve bestowed on me and the blessings always continue.

However, God is placing me in a new direction. Don’t think that the idea of grace will change in my life but this will allow my blog to be a little bit more accessible to those looking for insight into children’s ministry. So let me know what you guys think. I am also going to change the design of the blog and that will happen regardless of the name change but let me know about any name changes that you think would fit. The URL would stay the same as well.

So now that I have this job…

Basically I have been making so many new contacts now to learn as much as possible about editing, presentation, lights, and sound. Let me introduce you to a man that I met at Brookwood really as a cool guy to go eat lunch with but then I saw what he could do with a camera and was astounded…. literally.

His name is Steve Murphy I am telling you you have got to check out his blog. He is not just a video guy, he flat loves Jesus and he’s just really cool. He is also speaking this Wednesday night to teenagers. Please check out his blog you will miss out if you don’t.

Pre-Marital Counseling

Kristen and I have been in pre-marital counseling during the last week just talking and trying to figure out what to experience before we actually experience it. We are reading two books currently: One for our counseling sessions called “Saving your marriage before it starts” it talks about expectations, conflict resolution, and positive attitude and the other is called “Sheet Music” which is all about sexual intimacy in marriage. That book is seperated into two parts one for pre marriage and one for after you are married.

I have learned alot over the last couple of days and I am so glad for it. I can’t wait to get married almost exactly one month away in case you were wondering but I want to be the best husband and eventually father that I can be and the learning experiences are essential for preparation.

Needless to say its going great, our mentoring couple is awesome, our books are great, and we are learning more about one another through this process. I am ready for May 10th.

More involved

I am getting more and more involved in the process now. I have been to a meeting this morning with the Children’s staff and will go to team building with the entire staff in about 30-45 minutes. It’s exciting to see everything that is going on and the effort into developing leaders in our volunteers and investing resources into ministering to kids.

Pray for volunteers that only God can provide and for our mission to get kids into a relationship with Christ and to grow in it.

Also we are looking for an apartment and a honeymoon spot. If you know of anything let me know. Anyway love you guys and thanks for your prayers.

We choked

sad day and its funny I guess now I am getting bigger in the blog world because random strangers are posting comments that they are glad that the “thugs” didn’t win. Well I guess that is still our image even though we punished one of our players for the final four our back up pg no less. But I guess for those BCS programs they would have done it after the season but thumbs up to Cal on that decision.

If you went to the school you would know that they are different but that is where the judgements come from. Anyway we were 15 seconds away from a championship. I imagine it will be a long time before we get a chance like that again.

NCAA Championship

4 hours til gametime. Frankly I’m nervous these chances don’t come along often. I actually had someone accuse me of being a UNC fan the other day can you believe that?

hahaha anyway My Memphis Tigers are playing tonight in the biggest game for every one of them. Honestly I am happy to be there but if we lose I will be upset. Unlike most teams we knew we would be here this year. Everyone says that this is their goal but we said it in interviews after the season that we wanted the ring. Its time. Its time to put every citizen of the city of Memphis on your back to guide the basketball fandom to its first national championship.

I want nothing more than this win tonight. Put up or shut up. Joey Dorsey I’m proud of what you’ve been doing but do it one more time… nothing matters except this game. Dozier Cal gave you a chance what will you do with it now? CDR I don’t have to motivate you and D. Rose will be there too. Last but certainly not least in my book. Mr. Anderson, the chosen one as I have called him. The best defender in college basketball. Play your butt off and for your sake I hope you go off for 30 but knowing you, you will stay out of the limelight and lock down your man for the entire game.

Win it boys, give it your all and I can’t wait to see our banner in the Forum

Incredible Day Yesterday

I got to hang out with the volunteers that run the boards during the 8:30 service and just observe, I had my first pre-marital counseling session, and got to chill with Kristen at a movie, at lunch, and at night ( I love being in the same zipcode as my fiance)

In other news, we had alot of kids yesterday and by alot I mean alot. Over 4 digits!!! How can we reach all of these kids effectively and their parents for the kingdom of Christ and increase our impact across the board are things running through my mind.

I have always knew that numbers are important but are in no way the main thing. Let me just tell you something having over 1,000 kids will make you take your job serious about reaching them for Christ.

I love my job.

P.S. I hope that I will be the fan of a national champion tonight! That would mean bragging rights for a whole year.

Happy bday jesse!!!

Game Time

It’s 20 minutes to game time and I am so pumped. Two of my friends are in San Antonio and I recommended they throw things at Kevin Love if he was getting all the calls.

But anyway this is the best basketball team that Memphis has ever had and I can’t wait to see what happens.

I wonder why we say “It’s funny how God works”

I just thought about that very thing as I was going to write this blog. We have been talking all this week about our vision and how we must make our volunteers a priority. We must develop them into watchsprings and not leave them as rebar (funny illustration by Ned, but effective)So today in Titus 2 Paul talks about that very thing. You must develop your people. There are just so many examples of this in God’s word starting with Jesus and His disciples and then his smaller group of Peter, James, and John. Ever wonder why people can’t always name the other disciples? We must equip our people to be better and
