Coke Rocket you ask… Here it is

Well there were rumors of a Diet Coke and Mentos rocket around these parts. I am just going to say that J.C. had nothing to do with it…

Franz on the other hand

Wednesday Wisdom

I’m so excited that its my first Wednesday Wisdom post.

Thanks so much for the idea to start this on a weekly basis! I’ll start today with something that I observed last night while watching women’s gymnastics. The US Women’s team was incredibly distraught even though they were going to win a silver medal. I mean devastated. Their leader was breaking in front of millions of people and they couldn’t do anything about it. It was definitely a sad thing to watch.

Conversely the US Men’s Gymnastic team was completely excited to inch in a bronze medal. They had their two superstar gymnasts out before the Olympics started. They were actually winning the competition at one point just to have it basically snatched from them by the Chinese team. However, their attitude was totally different. They were still upbeat. They were still happy to be there. They still knew they could do big things.

Here is my thought from that. What is your attitude like when things don’t go your way? Are you completely distraught and thus useless until you get over it? Or are you completely happy with where you are realizing that in some way you don’t deserve to be here?

God has given me some immense opportunities these last few months. Not everything has turned out peachy but I pray that God will help me remember where I came from. That I don’t deserve to be here. That I deserve so much less. Thank you so much for changing me and I continue to pray that my attitude will push me to do things thought impossible instead of keeping me from accomplishing the improbable.

Are you leaving a Legacy?

My parents came in town the other day and my Dad and I got a chance to talk. It was fun to see everyone. I have missed them alot since I’ve moved to Greenville, Sc. He told me something amazing.

He told me that his Pastor and my Pastor at my home church in Atoka, TN has put me on a list of people that he is praying for. That me feel awesome by itself cuz this is a man who has pastored the same church for more than 20 years and has seen me grow from a small child. But my dad told me that Pastor Bob Lane put me on a list along with 48 other people serving in ministry that He prays for everyday. All 49 of us have been under Brother Bob’s teachings at some point in our lives. In a church that has a little over 200 members Bro. Bob is responsible for 49 people serving Christ in churches!

I can just hope that one day I can impact that many people in a way that they want to commit their lives to Christ. I was so humbled and intrigued. Some people (including myself at times) struggle to find how God works in small churches but I realized that God calls churches to different individual calls beside the worldwide calls He gave to all churches. Maybe yours is to feed the poor, or help addicts receive a new lifestyle, or develop leaders, or be an incredible place of worship, but whichever way it is I pray that you are doing it in such a way as to give an excellent service to God.

Are you leaving a legacy?

Summit

I am brainstorming some ideas for our Children’s ministry Summit. This event is like a big push to all of our volunteers in Children’s ministry along with all of the families. It involves a worship set some icebreaker games, and just some fun skits, videos, or anything that fits our “Get Connected” Lego theme.

If you have some cool ideas let me know. Games, videos, skits, etc.

Re-Runs and Fall Planning

For the next two weeks are doing re-runs for our children. Re-runs are just that, old teachings that we are replaying to get kids prepared for school. Lesosns that worked well but we feel are integral to teach our kids before they get back into their own grind of school.

So knowing that the lessons are going to be great is a pretty easy way to get excited about things. Not to mention the big fall that we have planned. Not only is there a renovation, there is also a new teaching method, and some branding possibly. I can’t wait to get started! What exciting things are coming up in your children’s ministry?

Well I got some responses

I think i am going to do a wed. wisdom update every wednesday. It will probably be alot of children’s ministry stuff. (i wouldn’t really call that wisdom as I’ve only been in cm for about 4 months but i’ll try).

There will probably be some marketing thrown in and probably a few guest posts.

Someone suggested i do a vlog on sports on youtube i thought it would be fun. But I am still looking for fun things to put on the blog so if you’ve got ideas let me know.

Weekend outlook

  • trying to do a couple regular things on the blog. (maybe some marketing stuff and definitely some connection stuff. Let me know what you would love to see on the blog.
  • The ‘rents come in tomorrow and I haven’t seen my dad or sister since I have gotten married. I can’t wait. I will get to chill with a national champion cheerleader (my sister)
  • Lots of thinking and organizing ideas for the fall.
  • Children’s ministry summit is in a few weeks. I’m excited and nervous at the same time.
  • still toying with the idea of a vlog of some sort. Maybe a bit more relaxed than professional for sure.
  • Looking for the next book to read. Would love some suggestions.

give me some books and things you would love to see on the blog.

The Written Blogs

I posted some content on The Written Blogs
I think that this site could become very big. It’s so much more relaxing and freeing to put my thoughts on paper. It gives you so much more freedom to think and express yourself. I hope that I see alot more to follow.

Thanks 3amjosh for pointing me to this site!

Identity Crisis

I am going to post a video but please understand that this video in no way is my opinion or close to my opinion of Newspring Church in Anderson, SC. But it will validate a point that we most definitely need to look at in our church today.

this is not a post to bash anyone but simply to say this. When unchurched people look at the church what do they see? A giant mess. Individual churches are trying to change this from Newspring to Elevation to many many others. But regardless the stereotype is that of mass confusion.

The church has an identity crisis. It is hard to imagine how we got here. I don’t how it gets fixed but it will take more than a strong effort from individual churches that is for sure. God gave us one Bible and eternal absolute truths, but yet when you try to define what the church of God looks like, what do you come up with? Its tougher than you think to come up with a complete description.

Tell me what you think will have to be done to fix this problem, is it a problem? Should we try to fix it?

And once again I chose this video because of the main illustration point and not for any other reason. I apologize for the thoughts contained in it.

And reality hits

I am more than excited about what God has in store for me not only in the future buy right now in the present. I am thankful for the encouragement that I received yesterday from so many sources. Thanks for reading and thanks for encouraging.

Yesterday after I am more than pumped about my learning from the day my car starts pouring our coolant. Not leaking but pouring out coolant. Imagine if you will a waterfall of antifreeze pouring from my Saturn. It was a fun site. So now after a day on top of the mountain I’m back to reality and trying to fix my car.

Fun fun fun.
