Sorry about yesterday

I had a vlog for Wednesday Wisdom but didn’t have time to finish it. It will happen maybe tonight or I might just wait until Next Wednesday. I was also incredibly blessed by the service last night at Varsity at Brookwood. I can’t believe that almost 90% of the teens at Varsity last night committed to lift up Christ at their schools.

Also the led’s were going nuts last night. They were flashing quickly while the message was going on and were very distracting. But i thought to myself how blessed we are to have those lights and they aren’t all that important. God kinda reminded me about the arguments that we had all the time in my marketing classes over media vs. message.

The message imo should never outweigh the time and effort put into the message, but unfortunately most of the time it does, especially in churches.

Also the worship was good. Loved the songs and I think the teens are growing in their attitude towards worship.

Anyway I wanted to apologize and let you know that the Wednesday Wisdom vlog is coming.

Really Cool Ideas

Ipod conference or the “Let’s Rock” Event from Apple. I just wanted to say that generally Apple has the coolest ideas. They take so much criticism from people and yet they are always on the edge of creative thinking.

Today from the “Let’s Rock” event, the thing that I thought was the coolest idea was that if you shake the iPod nano the songs shuffle. It just blows my mind how simple yet incredibly genius.

I was just thinking to myself. What are those ideas in Children’s ministry? What are the ideas that seem simple but really are genius? Where is children’s ministry going?

Job Descriptions for Volunteers

Today in our staff meeting we were going over Chapter 6 of Volunteers that Stick by Jim Wideman. He gives logical and practical steps to providing descriptions for your volunteers.

A couple things that I took away:

  • You can’t keep people accountable if you haven’t adequately explained the responsibilities that they are responsible for.
  • If people don’t have adequate training to do what you ask them to do then you can’t keep them accountable.
  • Having job descriptions adds value not only for the volunteers but also for you because you have a go to guide for interviews, recruiting, and evaluation.

Incredible insight from Mr. Wideman and lots and lots of info that was valuable to our team. I am excited about doing these things for our tech team and large group leaders. Plus it allows me to evaluate and train based on our Purpose and Responsibilities.

If you don’t have job descriptions for your people I urge you to get them done and if you don’t where to start with Volunteers I am begging you to check out some of Mr. Wideman’s Resources. The link at the top will get you started.

Juggling the Tools

All of the tech’s that read this blog I’ve got a question for you guys. I’m going through tutorials of motion and photoshop and illustrator. How in the world do you keep it straight?

Actually my question is: Which should I put my time and effort into? I am in children’s ministry and we do all of the above: video and graphic design. I want to know where to put my time and effort into and also some resources to help me learn.

Tell me what you think.

Beach wisdom

So this past weekend I was at Folly Beach in Charleston, SC. I was walking on the beach the other day basically just thinking and relaxing.

As I’m walking I’m seeing all the shells. Thousands of shells. Every one different, every one altered by its journey through the surf. Thousands of shells affected by the tide differently. It made me think of life and how every one is broken. Every one is hurting. And yet there are people like me that come by and walk over the top of the shells enjoying the crack as I run across the beach.

But there are others like my mom who love shells. They pick them up and take them home. They wash them and prepare to show them in some way. Then I thought about how Christ picks us up and does the same. He cares for us. He sees our brokeness and knows that the brokeness is unique for each person, yet undeniably feels the pain of each one. He cares for us so much that He put to death His Son. And I am thinking how completely unworthy I am of his care. How completely undeserving I am just a little piece of all the shells on the shore.

I love the beach…

Large Day Today

Today was is and will be very busy.

  1. Set change, curriculum change, and site change for our children’s ministry that happens this Sunday. Preparation finished today as far as physical prep goes. But I won’t be there Sunday for the big kickoff which adds to my large day. Know that I am praying for my awesome team and can’t wait to hear on Monday how God worked in the service.
  2. Our “Keeping It Hot” marriage conference is tonight. Kristen and I are involved in the service and I am excited to see what God is going to teach us through this event. I love my wife but I think that I have a lot to learn about marriage (I’m only 4 months in!)
  3. Plus tonight we plan to drive into Charleston to hang out with Josh Bradley, the high school pastor at Brookwood church, and his family and Kristen’s parents. I am excited because everyone will probably be driving the opposite direction! Pray for safety as we travel tonight!

Big day can’t wait to get some sleep tonight though. Later blogites!

It’s all coming together

After alot of hard work from our team today. I am feeling more and more comfortable with our situation for this Sunday. the Artwork looks awesome and the sets are going to incredible. The team is ready and I think that  it is going to be a really awesome Sunday. I am really very excited about how the kids are going to be molded by how we are changing the setup of our people involved in the service.

So needless to say I am alot less stressed. God is great! I am so thankful for his provision even when things are tough. Pray that Hurricane Hannah doesn’t destroy my wife and I when we drive through it tomorrow night.

Need some prayer

There is alot to accomplish for our kid’s promotion this Sunday. We are moving areas for children and so there is going to be alot of confusion already. But add to that the fact that we don’t have all of our sets printed and setup and we don’t have our stage cleared and I’m trying to go on vacation this weekend. I am really really stressed out right now. So I am praying that all of this gets done very very fast today and that I can go on vacation this weekend without having like 76 stomach ulcers.

In other requests the place we are planning to go on vacation to is right in the middle of a hurricane. I don’t think it will be a big problem but when the wind starts blowing hard there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. So I know we really need rain and everything but I really would like to go on vacation this weekend.

Thanks so much for your prayers!!!

You rock!

Incredible night tonight

Tonight was the official opening of our student/recreation facility at Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, SC. There were more teens than I have seen at Brookwood ever. The worship was great and the message was awesome. It was cool to see the dream and vision that my student ministry have fleshed out at Brookwood.

Josh Bradley and Mike Hepola are doing amazing things and reaching teens for Christ. I can’t wait to see how God uses this facility in the lives of not only the teens but everyone that participates there. Awesome, Awesome time. Made me think of Adventure Week again. How big a step is this.
