No way in the world I couldn’t pick these football games.

Ok so there are a few conf. championships going on this weekend. I wanted to weigh in with some picks and a few opinions.

First the one that I want to watch soooo bad. Florida vs. Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Here is what I will say to you. I have seen Alabama play some teams that play a similar style to Florida. Obviously they don’t have the complete package that Florida has but they want to get to the edge and beat you with their speed. The use misdirection and option style plays to make an impact. Alabama doesn’t care. They have beaten everyone. If you are a college football team would you rather have the best offensive and defensive lines or the best skill players. I know that I would much rather have the lines. And that is what Alabama has. I don’t think that Bama struggles to win this one at all. I know this isn’t popular and I might be totally wrong but I don’t see bama losing this one.

Next the Big 12 Championship

OU vs. Missou

Honestly I really want Missou to win this so the BCS will crumble and maybe a playoff system will at least be considered by some major programs. Anyway, It’s gonna be cold and it’s a stadium that Missou played in last week. They are a bit more accustomed to it. Plus OU is not in good graces right now really with anyone on a national scale. And the fact that Bob Stoops has lost big games when not at home in the last 3 years has made me really think Missou has a chance. I am picking OU but I really really think Missou has a shot at this thing.

I would pick the ACC Championship but honestly no one cares.

USC beats UCLA and gets another BCS berth.

That’s it. Check it out. let me know what you think.

Wednesday Wisdom on Thursday… hahaha

Today’s lil pearl of wisdom :) is about accountability.

I learned a whole lot of stuff during my tenure at UPS. I was a part time supervisor there for a while and thus had to go through their immense training manual. Most goofed off during what those that had been thru the training called “three weeks of vacation”, but I soaked up every second of leadership training that there was to offer. And so today I will give you one of those lessons that I learned during that time.

Accountability is a critical part of ever organization. Especially those that have goals (…hahaha) How do you expect to reach those goals?

So here are a few principles that must be in place for accountability to work properly.

  1. Everyone must know what they are responsible for. Some questions for you to consider: How well do you communicate to those that you lead what their responsibilities are? How well do you know what you are responsible for? Is a communication breakdown responsible for someone not knowing their responsibilities?
  2. The people responsible for the job must have the capacity to do the job. I will define capacity just so you clearly understand this principle. capacity-actual or potential ability to perform, yield, or withstand. That pretty much covers it I think. Generally if there is a problem here there are two things that can be done: find another person or train the current one. As the leader your responsibility is to make sure that your people have the capacity to do the job.
  3. The people responsible for the job must have the necessary authority for the job. Maybe you expect people to do a certain job but have you really given them the authority to own and control that part of their job. Do they clear all possible hurdles to complete the job or is there something that is in their way? As the leader you must give them clearance to get past all of the hurdles.
  4. The people who are responsible for the job must know the system of accountability. What are the consequences? They need to know those before going out in the job. They need to be able to understand why in the world do we hold them accountable. They need to know what happens if they don’t accomplish the tasks. Are their any consequences for failed tasks when the above steps are met?

Just a few things. For alot of those people that read this blog it might not seem very interesting. But if you’re a leader wondering about accountability I think that these principles will most definitely teach in not just reinforce some elementary things that must be done by both parties in order to have a clear accountability system.

Anyway just wanted to drop some knowledge on ya. thanks for reading.

My thankful post

While I had some time while my video work is rendering, I wanted to just highlight a few people that I am extremely thankful for.

  • My Wife: she is an incredible encouragement today. As most of you know she has school and a job and she is a wife and that is a giant workload. Especially because she is my wife. But she still has time to be my biggest fan in the world. I know that she believes in me even more than I do alot of times. Not only that but she also has no problem whipping me into shape. She has taught me more about loving others more than anyone in the world. If you don’t know Mrs. Kristen Thompson then you are definitely missing out. Plus she’s hott and my wife and so all those things are in her favor.
  • My Parents: I remember since like third grade my dad telling me that I needed to go to college so that I wouldn’t have to work like him. He’s a machinist. I had a great childhood and this is all because of my parents. They pushed me when it wasn’t popular to push your kids. They were hard on me when I screwed up and loved me through everything. I never had to worry about where my parents stood on the issue of me and my sister. We knew that they loved us with all they had. Now I’m getting to experience a softer side a more relaxed side. I think that God is blessing them with a little relief that one of their kids is done with college and is a success in life and love. My sis will soon join me in that realm. Mom and Dad I am who I am because of you and for that and so much more I am thankful.
  • Children’s Ministry Staff at Brookwood Church: I was brought in on some interesting circumstances. I actually heard about the job and met my boss at the same place. Wild Wing Cafe. I was looking for a job but hadn’t even considered ministry because I figured that it would come later in the future. From love and care and fun to overwhelmingly creative sparks and experience that I couldn’t get from anywhere else. They care for me in a crazy way. And we gel. We are a team with a unified purpose that we always know. I am so thankful for the influence that you all are in my life. All 12 or so of you, hahaha.

I am thankful for so much in my life. God only knows how much I need each of you in my life. Continue to live for Him in a world that denies Him. I love each of you and am so thankful that God has strategically placed each of you in my life. You guys rock!
