Recruiting Tips

I am going to begin to write a few posts on some keys to recruiting volunteers. I’m going to begin by going over what I believe to be the core of recruiting. It’s the mission. What do you feel a volunteers looks like…

For us at BrookwoodKiDs we feel like if you are in a relationship with God these three things apply to you…

You are called to serve
You are equipped to serve
You have an opportunity to serve

These three things allow us to frame the bulk of our recruiting and give us a framework to work with. Again these posts will be alot of strategy, but without the mission and beliefs about service then the strategy is misguided and thus not as effective. So to get you started off on the right foot get your mission straight!

Really interested in what you're doing. We're completely overwhelmed and our push for volunteers last week was met with lack-luster results. Folks are more interested in dropping off/picking up than serving.

A couple of things I would like to know Bill. What do your services look like? How many? Format etc. (adult services)

Sure. We're a pretty large Presbyterian church in Atlanta. Traditional services run 8:45, 10:00 and 11:15. We also have a well-attended contemporary service at 11:05. The contemporary is more kid-friendly; but it seems like everyone does their thing at 10:00 (Sunday School, worship, kids programming, etc.) and then heads out.

We have our second vision-casting meeting this evening with a number of key parents/volunteers tonight. It really feels like were going to go Orange. My feeling is that it's going to take some time to transition.

yeah it's always tough to work out the traditional/contemporary dynamics…

Continue to just cast that vision and pray. And yes it will take time to transition but pray, pray, pray and cast cast cast. It's gonna be tough but the ones that God calls to serve for the kids will hear and respond.
