Incredible Day Yesterday

I got to hang out with the volunteers that run the boards during the 8:30 service and just observe, I had my first pre-marital counseling session, and got to chill with Kristen at a movie, at lunch, and at night ( I love being in the same zipcode as my fiance)

In other news, we had alot of kids yesterday and by alot I mean alot. Over 4 digits!!! How can we reach all of these kids effectively and their parents for the kingdom of Christ and increase our impact across the board are things running through my mind.

I have always knew that numbers are important but are in no way the main thing. Let me just tell you something having over 1,000 kids will make you take your job serious about reaching them for Christ.

I love my job.

P.S. I hope that I will be the fan of a national champion tonight! That would mean bragging rights for a whole year.

Game Time

It’s 20 minutes to game time and I am so pumped. Two of my friends are in San Antonio and I recommended they throw things at Kevin Love if he was getting all the calls.

 

But anyway this is the best basketball team that Memphis has ever had and I can’t wait to see what happens.

I just thought about that very thing as I was going to write this blog. We have been talking all this week about our vision and how we must make our volunteers a priority. We must develop them into watchsprings and not leave them as rebar (funny illustration by Ned, but effective)So today in Titus 2 Paul talks about that very thing. You must develop your people. There are just so many examples of this in God’s word starting with Jesus and His disciples and then his smaller group of Peter, James, and John. Well i finished 2 Timothy yesterday and basically it was Paul’s last words to Timothy. You know what he said:

PREACH THE WORD

You know its funny and I mean funny, not like the sarcastic word for troubling, that I spend alot of my time with the tech stuff now but Paul reiterates that Timothy will have trouble but preach the word kid, preach the word.

Do I lose focus with the tech stuff? sometimes

Do I put alot of work into the presentation? yeah so did God look at the temple He wanted

Where should my focus be? The word and people.

I thank God for my experience with UPS. With all of the awesome things that go along with loading boxes plus the fact that I get people that are assigned to me to learn from me. It was so much more than the ugly process. I taught people and that is what was most fulfilling to me.

I pray that my focus would be to reach the volunteers and the kids for Christ. I want to fulfill what Paul told Timothy be about the Word and make a difference for people. Stay focused young one, stay focused.

Children’s Ministry Vision

I have been out of working in any kind of ministry for about 6 months before I moved to SC. The reasons were because I didn’t want the kids in the church that we moved to as a family to be left hanging by a guy that was only there to teach them until the next step in his life. I also didn’t know when that step would take place.

Now I am involved and plugged in again and better than anything else I am doing it full time.

I went to two meetings today, one was with the Children’s ministry team and the vision that they have for the future and how we are going to be set up as a team to effectively minister and another was a blueprint meeting where numerouse people gather to discuss everything that is needed for a large event.

The event that we discussed was: The Summer day camp for kids (VBS). I love that time the kids are pumped, the volunteers are pumped, and as I learned today there is so much work involved. Guess what? I get to be a part of it.

I am just so humbled by what God Himself has placed me in the middle of. I am so incredibly psyched about what is going on and the direction we are going. Look out world and parents Brookwood is going to make a huge impact on your kids and they will love Jesus more than you ever thought possible if we do our parts to honor God with our efforts.

Meetings Today

I meet with Allen White the Exeutive Pastor for Pastors at Brookwood. He is basically the boss of the pastors. It will be interesting to meet with him. Ned, the Children’s Pastor, asked me to meet with him so I am excited to meet and talk with him.

Also, Kristen and I are eating dinner with Ned and his wife tonight so basically I’m writing this to let you know that the process goes on. God is still pushing me forward in the process. Pray that all goes well and that I will learn and grow through this process and that God’s will would be done.

 Other than that I am looking forward to the wedding but not all the things that need to be paid for. (especially with no job :) ) but God has provided in the past and will provide again. I am always interested to see how things work out…

Easter Weekend

Well I am about to leave Columbia where I went to the Barfield’s house for the weekend. Me and Kristen got alot of stuff accomplished for the wedding and I had a chance to chill out.

It was nice to talk to Mr. Dave, He is an incredible encouragement and just flat loves people and Jesus. I’m glad that my in laws bring me alot of wisdom. I asked about the job search and everything and He just told me that it seemed like something that would fulfill my skills and provide an opportunity to serve and grow. So that was pretty awesome. Not only that but we also talked some politics and life.

I would give an update but I don’t have one of the job search. I interviewed last week and haven’t heard from them maybe something will happen next week. I am having trouble sleeping which for me means that God is doing something cuz I can’t sleep but I don’t really get tired during the day. So maybe that is good news. But I’ll post when I figure something out. Love you guys.

ROAD TRIP!!!!

Well today is a long trip. First we leave from Columbia to Greenville to drop some stuff off at Josh’s house.

Then we make the long trip to Memphis. I think I can get from Greenville to Memphis in 8 hours time but I’m not sure so time will tell. It will also be difficult because I am not used to the gas mileage that Kristen’s Jeep gets so we will see. I’m sure there will be some funny things to tell you about but pray that we make it. We are going straight through the state of TN so it will be through the mountains.

I hope we don’t fall off.

Are you ready for a Revolution??

Well I’ve been at The Barfield’s this week to help on the house and just to visit and chill. The House as I’m Dubbing it will be incredible and we painted the den and the kitchen plus the ceiling which was my special contribution to the project. It was fun but hard work at the same time and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Tonight being Wednesday back in TN would mean a worknight, but now that Im not working I’ve been to church for the last three weeks. This week was at a service called Revolution where Dave Barfield runs the lights and videos and sound all in one which looked incredibly difficult. The music was very good and the kids were awesome. Overall very good. I was impressed. Dave and Beth have contributed alot to this ministry from painting and construction on the building to running the lights, sound, and video. So it was pretty awesome to just see their contributions fleshed out.

I would give you a link to learn more about Dave and Beth Barfield because if you don’t know them you definitely should, but neither one writes a blog so…. let them know that they should!!

anyway its been fun and I’m still pondering the children’s ministry position. I am praying and reading and got some encouragement from my mother yesterday and will probably get some more when I go home this weekend. If your in Memphis I’m coming back with my fiance so lets make some plans and hang out this weekend.

A new door opened?

I have been searching and searching but haven’t had any luck at all these past few weeks. But now a door has opened at Brookwood Church. It is a creative type position. Basically I would be one of three on a team of people that kind of guide the videos and interactive things involved in the Children’s ministry. It has been quite some time since I have done these sort of things. I was in Cougar Vision when I was a junior and senior in High School and haven’t really done the stuff since that time. Basically I don’t want to do any ministry half heartedly or anything for that matter. and its just not in my personality to do otherwise. Now I must decide if Kristen and wife are supposed to be involved in this Children’s ministry.   I have always struggled with this and this might be the opportunity to get me involved in this and then again it may not. Never the less its very exciting. I will also give you guys some advice. I learned this week that sometimes your abilities and gifts are recognized by those around you. God calls us to encourage people. Make it an active effort to express the fact that people are doing a good job. But don’t lie at the same time be truthful and positive in your comments.Also please don’t take this opportunity to flood my post with comments. But if you think this is an opportunity that you think I would be great for in children’s ministry I ask that you pray to God and ask Him to encourage me this week. I have an opportunity to pray over this next week and then meet again with the guy that I would report to. So please do this very small favor for me.
