The Olympics via Kristen Thompson

Here are a few Kristen gems from the Olympics:

  • is 50m pool like the 50 yard line?
  • Pole Vault is like limbo excepts backwards!
  • She is running funny, they are all running funny, maybe its because they are running with poles.

One thing is for sure. My wife is incredibly funny and she keeps me more and more interested each and everyday. She’s incredible and awesome. Pray for her as she continues her journey in school at North Greenville University!

Summit

I am brainstorming some ideas for our Children’s ministry Summit. This event is like a big push to all of our volunteers in Children’s ministry along with all of the families. It involves a worship set some icebreaker games, and just some fun skits, videos, or anything that fits our “Get Connected” Lego theme.

If you have some cool ideas let me know. Games, videos, skits, etc.

Re-Runs and Fall Planning

For the next two weeks are doing re-runs for our children. Re-runs are just that, old teachings that we are replaying to get kids prepared for school. Lesosns that worked well but we feel are integral to teach our kids before they get back into their own grind of school.

So knowing that the lessons are going to be great is a pretty easy way to get excited about things. Not to mention the big fall that we have planned. Not only is there a renovation, there is also a new teaching method, and some branding possibly. I can’t wait to get started! What exciting things are coming up in your children’s ministry?

Weekend outlook

  • trying to do a couple regular things on the blog. (maybe some marketing stuff and definitely some connection stuff. Let me know what you would love to see on the blog.
  • The ‘rents come in tomorrow and I haven’t seen my dad or sister since I have gotten married. I can’t wait. I will get to chill with a national champion cheerleader (my sister)
  • Lots of thinking and organizing ideas for the fall.
  • Children’s ministry summit is in a few weeks. I’m excited and nervous at the same time.
  • still toying with the idea of a vlog of some sort. Maybe a bit more relaxed than professional for sure.
  • Looking for the next book to read. Would love some suggestions.

give me some books and things you would love to see on the blog.

And reality hits

I am more than excited about what God has in store for me not only in the future buy right now in the present. I am thankful for the encouragement that I received yesterday from so many sources. Thanks for reading and thanks for encouraging.

Yesterday after I am more than pumped about my learning from the day my car starts pouring our coolant. Not leaking but pouring out coolant. Imagine if you will a waterfall of antifreeze pouring from my Saturn. It was a fun site. So now after a day on top of the mountain I’m back to reality and trying to fix my car.

Fun fun fun.

New Start

I have been learning for my entire life. It’s so interesting that some people don’t enjoy learning. Besides breathing, its one of the most important things that we do. From reading, to observation, to listening, and experience learning is so incredibly important in our lives. I learn in so many different ways.

I really believe that the last 3.5 years of my life was an incubation time set-up by God for me. It allowed me to see ministry in a different way, see what other’s viewpoints were founded on (non-church people opinions), and not only that but also to learn by experience.

I was not completely out of ministry for that time but definitely not as involved as I have been in the past. I was stretched with both school and work and yearned, literally “yearned” for service.

I ate up the leadership that I gained from my part-time management position. It was my only outlet for service and I knew that I could lead from that point on. God gave me an outlet to use my gifts and God used me through that time and proved that I could lead instead of just hearing it I saw it.

This is my new chance. I couldn’t wait to get plugged into what God had for me in SC, when I knew that I was going to be moving to where my then fiance was going to school at. So in the midst for looking for a job I jumped back into serving at the church. Just doing games for the students there, was life changing, I was so thankful for God allowing me to give so much time and effort to serving Him. Then it happened. Since a girl told me that I would be a preacher when I was about 8 years old I have felt this calling on my life. I figured I would get a Master’s degree in some kind of Bible related focus and then get started into ministry. But God had other plans.

I am now working as the Elementary Production Director at  Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, SC. I have a Marketing Degree from the University of Memphis and my only experience in ministry is volunteering. I have been at this job since April of this year and I have never been more in the zone than what I am right now. I am really writing this blog to celebrate my birthday to day so I apologize for the energizing tone.

The kids energize me. People say this but I really believe it, God created me to be a kid at heart. I think like them. I want them to dream big and play hard and learn tough life lessons now. Not wait until they “are ready”. God used King Josiah at age 8 and can definitely use our kids here at Brookwood. God is pouring alot into my life right now and I can’t wait to see the results. Please pray for me as its time to crank some things up. For Volunteers and Parents of children that go to Brookwood, God is up to something. Adventure Week was a step in the right direction. It’s about to be time to leap into what God is giving us. Will you be ready?

First bday as a married man

Birthdays are interesting now that teenage years are over. The times of extravagant wishes for bdays are over and yet they still come. It’s a time of celebration yes but not so extravagant this time.

Now I have a wife and priorities are different. I’m very glad they are different imagine still wanting TMNT action figures for my birthday, that would be weird. So now a day of relaxation and some time with friends while watching “Wipeout” is going to be an incredibly exciting birthday present.

Tell me how you view bday’s now that you are growing older.

About to leave for Columbia, SC

After some time at work today I am ready to leave for Columbia. My wife, Kristen’s parents are moving into their home after the year long process of building a house. They have been living in an apartment with their son Drew, 18 who has cerebral palsy and their youngest daughter Emily, who is a really great artist and has a creative mind that is better than most that I have seen.

The apartment was incredibly cramped so this is a big celebration for them and I am happy to be a part of it. The house is equipped with all of the stuff that Drew needs and a studio-type bedroom for Emily. I can’t wait to share the fun and excitement with them as they move into the home. Pray for travels as we go. Probably very few blogs this weekend but you never can really tell with me.
