Happy 2016 everyone!
I hope that it’s been good. Wanted to give you an update on the Thompsons and also some plans for the coming year on this blog and my side project.
We have completed all of our paperwork to be licensed foster parents and are just awaiting our license. We are equal parts excited and nervous for what God has planned for us.
Kristen is once again staying at home. She’s excited for what God has in store for her and you can bet that you’ll be seeing some furniture re-dos and some rooms in our house get updated and loved.
Cannon is strong and vibrant. He loves Paw Patrol, Blaze, and loves playing Rocket League with dad.
I am working two FT jobs right now. I’m the HS Pastor and also the Family Pastor at my church. It’s really tiring but I can tell you alot, and I will be soon, about the things I’m learning taking on both roles.
Spending a lot of time praying and asking God what He wants Family Ministry to look like.
Because of my side project and my two jobs, this blog has taken a huge backseat. I’ve also had to re-evaluate what I’m doing on here and why I’m doing it.
I’ve posted about so much Preteen Ministry/Youth Ministry/Family Ministry stuff that it got to be cluttered and lacked focus. So my plan moving forward is to use this space to talk about my family and also some Family Ministry Specific things.
Here are some things you can expect from me:
1-2 posts per week about Family Ministry stuff. Volunteers, Curriculum, Strategy, etc.
1-3 posts per month about our family. What we are learning and walking through and really some fun things that we are experiencing with our son and with the kids we get from foster care (although screened appropriately)
Some resource recommendations and giveaways that will help you with Family Ministry at your church.
Here are some things to be looking for in the side hustle:
Leadership, Leadership, Leadership directly targeted to those who lead in churches. This is meant to be a place for leaders, not necessarily Pastors.
Podcast! I’m super excited because I think I’ve got a great strategy for really helping those who lead teams in churches. I can’t wait to share these things with you!
Community interaction. I hope that this new side hustle will be a place for leaders to gather and a place to share ideas.
A work in progress. I don’t have a lot of money. So this project being worked on at all, is something I’m doing because I really think God wants me to. But it will be a process of building it to what I hope it will one day become. A place for leaders in ministry to breathe, grow, and execute. And I’m pumped.
So there’s the update. This week I’m in Atlanta for the NEXT conference for Family Pastors led by Kenny Conley and I’ll also be in Chattanooga for CPC. Hit me up at either. Can’t wait to talk ministry and family with you.
Hope your year is going great!
