I read this post from Will Mancini today as it was shared by my friend Josh Bradley. He brings up a point which might be quite controversial, but first desribes the most important church trend this upcoming year.
Declining church attendance.
He gives some great points that I think are worth considering. Ultimately, I think this makes a case for something that the American church hasn’t really taken great steps in yet.
Yes there are a number of different apps and websites out there, but I haven’t seen a lot of churches with a digital preparation and mobilization strategy.
Think of the impact of your church members receiving personal training from your pastoral staff on a daily, rather than weekly basis!
What about the ability to have true dialogue on things that they are dealing with in their mission field of life?
What about the training that we could provide to missionaries around the world?
It’s actually one of the reasons why I started working on my side project. To give digital training to ministry leaders.
If you haven’t thought about this for your youth ministry yet, I want to give you 3 real practical ways to begin digitally mobilizing your students in their schools.
I don’t know if these systems exist, but I hope someone, somewhere is developing them
3 Mobile, Mobilization Techniques
- Sharing your faith
What is you could have a library of resources available to your students on their mobile devices? What is you could have FAQs on different world religions and ice breaker conversations about faith? What if they could take notes on their interactions with their peers? Not only that but what about digital invitations to church, on their personal device!!
- Leadership Development
What if you could provide customized training modules to your volunteers and staff people? What if you could provide road maps (first impressions, first responder, next steps, etc.) that a volunteer could go through and learn? What if you could be training leaders on the fly without them being present at your facility? Think of how quickly students could consume training content and be ready to put it into action in your ministry!
What if you could let your students know what you are praying for and how they might be able to pray for other students in their world? What if they could relay that information to you as a ministry leader? What if you had dozens of students praying around their schools for their community?
I konw that churches are beginning to embrace mobile technology, but my hope is that they just try more things, faster. It’s not going away and you have literally thousands of students who are ready for the church to give them answers.
I’m praying we are more concerned about disciple making than church attendance.
