March Madness

So my Tigers were scaring me yesterday and probably were scaring Matt Mckee too.
But they squeaked it out and play Maryland Saturday. Regardless of you being a Memphis fan or not, you gotta love the Madness.

So to throw a little bit of excitement at you check out this video.

March Madness

NKOTB

Yeah so I went to a NKOTB concert last night. Kristen is a huge fan. I am not that much. Mostly because they were before my time and I just didn’t listen to much music from when I was 2-7! But Kristen used to have the PJ’s and everything of NKOTB. So knowing we weren’t going to go I blasted my friend for going to the concert, because I thought that he was a huge fan and didn’t know that it was going to be a surprise for his wife and that she also was a huge fan.

Long story short, I ate some humble pie when he offered us tickets to go to the show with them. I was extremely grateful and did have fun. Plus we got to see a few 30 year old women cry as they were singing “I’ll be loving You”.

picture-3Plus think about how a 30-35 year old mom would celebrate when their kid hits a home run or when they just killed the dance number they’ve been practicing for months; then change it to excitement about their own celebration with the back track as “The Right Stuff” :) .

But the best part of the night is seeing my wife smile as she got to see one of those bands she used to love, live. It was worth more than anything else in the whole world. So big thanks to Josh Bradley (student pastor at Brookwood, and soon to be blogger) for the tickets. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my wife happy!

Now I’ve got to find an animal to kill with my bare hands to earn some man cards back.

Soapbox post… sorry :)

First let me state 2 facts:

Always been a Memphis fan and basketball fan in general, and 2 I went to school there. So I probably have some blue shades on :)

But I am not really ready for the criticism coming our way after we get our spot in the tourney. We set another NCAA record yesterday by winning more games in 4 years than anyone else.

Let me start w/ my we don’t play anybody argument. We can’t pick who we play against. A few years back CUSA was one of the best conferences in the country (Louisville, Cincinatti, Marquette, and us). Pretty good company. They left and we had to replace them with people that weren’t as good and were in smaller conferences. And they are getting better. But regardless we can’t pick them. O yeah and for 2 straight years we beat them all. ALL of THEM.

0 conference losses!!!

But that is minor.  My second point is our nonconference schedule.

On the road we played Georgetown, Gonzaga, Tennessee… On a neutral court we played Xavier. We played Syracuse at home. All nonconference top 25 teams at the time. That doesn’t count teams like Cincy or Seton Hall which aren’t nobodies (only cause they play in the Big East though :) These are all scheduled by us even though we don’t play anybody out of conference either as some of my Duke fans would say.

Let’s compare these nonconf teams to other “top tier teams”

UNC- non conf- big opponents Notre Dame(neutral) and Michigan State(neutral but in Detroit so we’ll say road) and Kentucky (home) pretty good but three tough opponents out of all of their nonconference…

UCONN-Miami(neutral), Wisconsin(road), Gonzaga(road) not bad again half of the teams that Memphis has to schedule out of conference to be considered a “decent non-conference schedule”

The reality is that you should be impressed with our streak, and the fact that we are looking for 4 straight trips to the Elite Eight and 2 straight to the Final Four. We have proven ourselves after losing 3 players to the NBA and will continue to play well. And guess what this is our down year.

Next year I am already telling you guaranteed Final Four and if we get John Wall we should be preseason Number One. Somehow I have a feeling that I’ve done nothing Duke will be in the running again for beating no one at all…

Overall I am looking forward to the tourney just not looking forward to the 3 or 4 days of ACC grads talking about how Memphis is terrible.

stepping off now :)

Running through my head this morning…

  • OJ Mayo ran the point last night for the Grizzlies. Yeah it was the Clips, yeah it was forced, and yeah they looked like an actual NBA team! Much better spacing and scoring opportunities for everyone. It made me a lil proud of the Baby Griz.
  • I am really excited about two series going on in churches: Scars at Mark Batterson’s Church and Life Out of Control at Brookwood. Much wisdom will come from these.
  • God is moving me spiritually forward but my physical body is lagging behind.
  • I am praying like never before for everyone, everywhere.
  • Culture is changing everywhere and I hope the leaders of all ministries are proactive rather than behind the curve.
  • I am still reeling from The Bachelor. If you haven’t seen this watch these clips. Ridiculous.
  • My Memphis Tigers are preparing for their Tourney run once again. 3 straight Elite Eights, 1 nat’l champ. game. Don’t think we’re a title contender but if the chips fall right we could make a run for it. But I want a title not bragging rights again.

What’s running through your head this morning.

In honor of V-Day!

I’ve shown this video a few times but just as a throwback for my new readers and as our first V-Day as a married couple, I wanted to show this video again.

This is our engagement. Totally a surprise for Kristen. Check it out!

So I’m pretty excited a few things!

  • First day of filming for Adventure Week 2009. It will be incredible!
  • Orange Conference is coming! If you are going let me know what you are most excited about.
  • I’m excited to get to hang out with our CM staff and the SM staff at Brookwood and not be in a work environment (and worship together!)
  • Getting ready to write some stuff for our Easter Curriculum.
  • First Valentine’s Day with my wife as a married man! (Can’t wait Kristen!)

Feeling a little homesick today..

Ever really miss your hometown? Today is one of those day that despite coming from the most violent city in America and hearing all that stuff on the news all the time about crime I just miss it…

A couple of things have happened since I moved to Greenville, SC.

  • My Alma Mater went to an NCAA national championship game. (They lost, but they were there)
  • The Memphis Grizzlies drafted a player that might actually take them to a playoff win. (OJ Mayo I support thee)
  • And today to cap it all off it snowed there last night! It rarely snows in Memphis and it brought back some memories of my family playing in the snow and throwing snowballs at each others face as we all try and run and hide! Fun times…

So today I’m just a lil bit homesick. So pray for me :)

Man there are some weird sayings out there…

So as I’m about to fall asleep last night I’m thinking about some sayings that just really confuse me:

  1. “Jesus take the wheel”: First of all I really don’t think that Jesus ever drove anything… And shouldn’t it be like Dale Earnhardt take the wheel or Jeff Gordon take the wheel. And secondly if you really want a saying about Jesus how bout Jesus take the car or pick up the house…
  2. “If you play your cards right”: Is there an option to play them wrong? Or is it like you have a deck of UNO cards and you need to play UNO with them and not like Solitaire. Wouldn’t it just be common sense to play them right? And if it is like the Game of War card game then there really is no strategy at all.
  3. “So good it will make you slap somebody”: Do feelings of joy make you really that violent? I mean has anyone ever partaken in something so great that their immediate reaction is “O I should really slap someone right now” Doesn’t make any sense.
  4. “That’s like comparing apples to oranges”-Aren’t they both fruits and sort of round? Doesn’t that make them similar?
  5. “Going the whole nine yards”: Now I am a football fan. Doesn’t it take ten yards to get a first down? So if you go the whole nine yards you didn’t get far enough!
  6. And last but not least my favorite: “You can’t have your cake and eat it too”: yes you can in fact if you have cake and don’t eat it: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! I thought the purpose of cake was to eat it, Am I missing something?

Great Weekend!

I just got into the office after an incredible weekend this weekend. We went to Acworth, GA to see some friends at Freedom Church.

Pastor JR Lee was my student minister when I was in Memphis, TN and their family and Todd Lollis‘ family started a church one year ago this past Sunday. They are doing amazing things and if you are anywhere close to Acworth, GA you need to check them out…

Also just had an incredible time with my wife. I had so much fun hanging out with my wife and seeing some little ones on her arm. She is going to make an awesome mother.

Anyway getting back to the grind today. Already rendering some green screen footage.

Check this guy out!

Looking through my blog stats today and saw a link for one of my friends that started a blog…. today!

So here is what I want you to do. I want you to throw some traffic his way. His name is Aaron Lewis and his wife’s name is Jessica. They moved here not too long ago from Michigan. They have quickly become some of Mine and Kristen’s best friends. They are incredible people and Aaron is an incredible friend. He has come from alot of baggage and is overcoming it day by day. He is passionate about completing his mission from God. He’s also a Michigan fan-all sports (which is very refreshing). And he is also a Lions fan and yes he’s upset that they didn’t win a game. It is always nice to find friends that care about you and have your back no matter what and Aaron and Jess are in that status. Drop him a comment and let him know that you will pray for him just like you guys do for me.

Thanks!!!
