Leading when you’re Young

leading-when-youre-young

This week I’ll be doing a series of posts on “Leading when you’re Young”. I am 23 years old and am a leadership nutjob. I love to read, probably bordering on unhealthy amounts of leadership material. From business to church, sales to service, profit to non-profit, it all is interesting to me. I hope to give some encouragement and share some struggles of leading when you are young.

And if you’re young and in leadership, hang in there. It takes time, and that is the hardest thing for me to remember.

Help Haiti

haiti-shirt800

So I believe everyone has heard about the earthquake in Haiti. Some estimates are saying between 50k-100k people have passed and up to 1,000,000 could be homeless. So here’s a chance to get involved. This link will take you to a site where you can get this shirt to help you raise awareness and donate $5.

The shirt is normally $15 but Doubletake Clothing has setup easy entry process to donate an extra $5 to the people in Haiti.

  • That’s a meal
  • 5 candy bars
  • 12 pack of Diet Pepsi’s
  • 2 cups of coffee at Sbux

Please take the time to donate to the cause and wear the shirt to raise awareness!

simple

You don’t need to outdo the competition. It’s expensive and defensive. Underdo your competition. We need more simplicity and clarity.

Wow…

If you haven’t seen this video you need to check it out. At your desk right now, you’ve got a chance to worship with the God of second chances. Don’t miss an opportunity like this.

Authentic, real, worship.

I always have trouble with these things

I consistently have trouble with making a Christmas wish list. Like every year all the time. But I have some definite interests that I pursue throughout the year. So if you’re like me I have an idea for you.

I love books and I love to read. So one of the things that I do is when I am browsing through the bookstore is take pictures of the books that I am interested in. Then I bring my phone and the pics and make a wish list on amazon. I send it in an email for people to check out:
Here’s mine for this year thus far:

My Wish List

It’s just something that I do year round and it helps point people to what I want without having to take alot of extra time and stress to think about it.

How bout you? How do you get around the wish list crazy time of the year? How do you tell people what you want? How do you figure it out.

Greatest Message I’ve Ever Heard…Literally

brookwood-post-2

So I literally never do this. I don’t usually pimp out Brookwood Church stuff. I think there are a ton of resources out there including ours and I just don’t pimp our stuff. I try and give you overviews and strategies that we use in hopes that you will consider ideas and come up with your own.

This is Different!

I heard the greatest message I have ever heard in my entire life. This message is for everyone except kids but especially parents. I will tell you this, it’s heavy. There will be emotions that this message will evoke that you might not have known are there. It’s beneficial for you to talk about these things.

I never, never, ever, ever do this. This message is that important. You need to watch or listen to it. It’s about an hour, it’s worth it.

Yes I am crazy enough to think that I just told you to watch or listen to a message that is about an hour and you will watch it because I’m sounding crazy.

Greatest message ever.

Let me know what you think.

Getting involved in the wave

So I have been a bit disconnected from my blog for a bit. Mainly cuz I’m busy writing in a medium other than the blog and at the same time, I’ve spent a ton of time with Google Wave.

It’s cool to connect with alot of kidmin peeps and talk about the big things and be able to talk about them in detail all in real time. Overall the technology behind the Wave is faulty and has some bugs. But the concept and mainly the people have made the overall troublesome tech experience a complete joy.

It’s awesome. I don’t know anything about invites or anything so if I get some then I will let you guys know first hand after I throw some out to some staffers.

It’s really cool.

Other than that my wife is finishing her last semester of classes before a semester of student teaching and then graduation. I’m so proud of her. She’s a newlywed (I guess, not sure when that title becomes something else), she commutes to school, she works with a boy with sever autism and She’s married to me which is probably the hardest job of all. So proud and yet she needs some prayers through some tough assignments to get her through. If you get a few, I would love it if you could talk to Him for her.

As far as me. I’m ok. Getting to write and really work on teaching right now. Not only that but getting to work on our own processes at Brookwood Church and others’ processes make me very excited! I love the purpose behind the processes.

That’s where we’re at. Let me know if there is anything that I can pray for, for all of you people!

Look for some fun stuff coming up!

Sometimes I feel like this…

I know that Malcolm Gladwell says that it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert at something. I know that it takes years and years and years to develop a craft and a strategy and enough experience to know “been there, done that stories”

But I’m not there yet! It drives me nuts. Like really passionately insane. I read, study, pray, love, fight, mess up, pray some more, observe, lead, push, mess up again, strive, hurt, wait, wait, wait.

I know that Jesus took 30 years to prepare and Moses took 80 years, but somehow someway it should take me less time.

However, I am thankful that God loves me passionately and has desired for me to be in on what He is doing in this world. It’s just not my time to know exactly where, when and how He is going to do it.

I just pray that I don’t mess it all up. I hope that I can be an example even as a youngun. 1 tim 4:12

Until then “I’m fallin’ I’m fallin, fall, fall, fall, fall” (Alicia Keys)

I’m so ready for THIS!

Butterfly-Girl, originally uploaded by Eddy.H.

I totally love Butterflies. I know bring on the I’m such a girl comments. I really can’t believe that I just wrote in on a web page that will exist for awhile that I actually love Butterflies. I always have. The incredible color, patterns, behavior. The fact that they eat sugar water (Who hasn’t dreamed of that?!)

But I learned something pretty cool this weekend that I just have to share with you.

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (NIV)

That word transform actually means metamorphosis-a profound change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism, as from the caterpillar to the pupa and from the pupa to the adult butterfly.

A complete state change… incredible. Maybe we don’t understand how drastic the change is that occurs by the renewing of your mind. Maybe we just think transforming is like a subtle change. But by renewing your mind you totally undergo a complete stage metamorphosis.

Pretty awesome. Anyway this ends my butterfly geekage. Back into obscurity ;)
