How can Social Media connect and multiply impact?

I think we would all agree with the rise of:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook (I know the oldies are gettin in on it now :) )
  • Live streaming

These are the tools to reach people now. Do you think it’s a coincidence that we are in the middle of a terrible economy and crisis and yet the church is finding incredible ways of connecting with people never thought possible?

My question is this:

How can we use the tools that are now at our disposal to impact the kingdom of Christ TOGETHER?

Ahead for this week…

There is alot going on this week that has to be done:

  • Finish writing a lesson for our basketball devotions
  • Finish editing this week’s basketball devotion
  • Filming rest of bball devotions
  • Rest of the weekly things
  • Brainstorm some branding (whoo hoo!)

Manga Bible

So I went to Barnes and Noble the other day with the in-laws. I was checking out some books and was looking for a chain reference Bible. It was a cool tool that my boss had that we used when writing curriuculum. Anyway as I’m looking for this Bible this couple rushes straight up to a Manga Bible.

Is this how kids will read the Bible in the future? on TwitPic

If you don’t know what manga is here is a link that will tell you what you need to know. Basically it’s like a comic book. The couple then complains about “the dumbing down of God’s word”. Here is what I want to know from my readers.

Is this dumbing down of God’s word or something different. What do you feel about this idea of a manga Bible? Again if you don’t know what Manga is please click the link before you comment.

One Month to Live

This month we have been going through a series called “One Month to Live.” This has been an intense time in my life for God teaching me so many things about prioritizing and living my life to the fullest extent and making every second, every minute, every hour, and every day count. I can tell you the countless number of things that I’ve learned but honestly there isn’t enough time or space to do it. But I have to show you this video. This is a story of a woman at our church and I just don’t think we put people’s real life stories out there enough. So here is one that you must hear.

Visit the website and let me know what you think about the video.

Job Descriptions for Volunteers

Today in our staff meeting we were going over Chapter 6 of Volunteers that Stick by Jim Wideman. He gives logical and practical steps to providing descriptions for your volunteers.

A couple things that I took away:

  • You can’t keep people accountable if you haven’t adequately explained the responsibilities that they are responsible for.
  • If people don’t have adequate training to do what you ask them to do then you can’t keep them accountable.
  • Having job descriptions adds value not only for the volunteers but also for you because you have a go to guide for interviews, recruiting, and evaluation.

Incredible insight from Mr. Wideman and lots and lots of info that was valuable to our team. I am excited about doing these things for our tech team and large group leaders. Plus it allows me to evaluate and train based on our Purpose and Responsibilities.

If you don’t have job descriptions for your people I urge you to get them done and if you don’t where to start with Volunteers I am begging you to check out some of Mr. Wideman’s Resources. The link at the top will get you started.

Juggling the Tools

All of the tech’s that read this blog I’ve got a question for you guys. I’m going through tutorials of motion and photoshop and illustrator. How in the world do you keep it straight?

Actually my question is: Which should I put my time and effort into? I am in children’s ministry and we do all of the above: video and graphic design. I want to know where to put my time and effort into and also some resources to help me learn.

Tell me what you think.

Adventure Week Notes

I can’t believe that its here but also I can’t believe that we are done with day 2.

I would give alot more information besides the awesome incredible worship and super fun kids. But honestly there is no way I could put it all into a blog entry especially with the schedule for this week.

By the way I am getting and iPhone in 1-3 weeks.

Check out this post!

I am a fan of this guy. Check him out. He is a big time guy to follow on relevance and the church. He believes the same as I do that being relevant is a part of the process. We want the church to define culture. That is his dream and vision. Check out this post by Scott Hodge that he did to see how we can get there.

Volunteers

You do matter. I wanted to share a post with you by a guy named Jim Wideman. He’s the guy that wrote Volunteers that stick. A book that we are going through as a children’s ministry team. As a young guy it is good to have guys to look up to like this one.

Check it out and I pray that you God will bless whatever ministry you are a part of in fulfilling God’s will.

Self Marketing

I had fun this weekend with David C. Jacks if you didn’t know he is developing a self marketing program for himself. I laughed because every 3 seconds at his house he was naming a product to see if i would buy it if it had his name on it. T-shrits, pens, coffee cups, and mp3 players are just a few. If he could find a way to put his picture into the lava in a lava lamp i would buy one of those that would be awesome.

Also we played some LaserTron at Putt Putt too. David definitely rocked my world. Even though my team won every mission when we were on opposite squads.

Anybody that wants to get beat by the baddest laser tag duo in the game today is more than welcome.
