Crazy Awesome Video

Apple Tablet?

iSlate UI Concept, originally uploaded by celipovideos.

So we’ve all heard crazy rumors about this very device.

iSlate
iPad
iTablet

and I’ve even got a good friend who thinks that it’s going to be something totally different.

But here’s what I think. I think Apple is designing a new way to look at a computer. They want a family device to take media consumption to a whole new place. Think of art, reading, games, television all on one device with the ability to be all-in-one but also peripheral device.

Seems to be an incredible technology upgrade to me.

But what do you think? What does Apple have up their sleeve?

NBA JAM! coming to the Wii

Welcome to NBA JAM!, originally uploaded by mYke ciRcle.

I just gotta say, this is really awesome. I can’t wait. EA or Electronic Arts, a video game company, announced that later this year NBA Jam is making a comeback on the Wii this year. I will be in line when it comes out to add to my Wii library.

You can view the rest of the story here.

Are you looking forward to NBA Jam? What’s your favorite saying from the game?

Tech Tool of the Year

Computer Technology Fortune, originally uploaded by deanj.

Well I’m going to give you my number one tech tool of the last year. Technology is defined as this:

the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.

Well I guess I’ll have to give you two.

1) Pilot G2 pens. They are the greatest. I really don’t know what I would write with if I didn’t have them. Greatest pen when considering value/price. Hands down used it throughout the year and just an incredible joy to have throughout the day.

and if that didn’t count for you as a tech device then I’ll give you numero two and then my predictions for 2010.

2)Google Reader-I know it’s older, I know it’s not the iPhone, but I use it more than any other piece of technology except for my actual computer and I mean come on, that would just be a cheap answer if I said Macbook Pro.

2010 predictions:

Kindle-the ability to organize your highlights and annotations with it automatically referencing location in the book has already done wonders for my brain. The money I’ll save on books will be worth it as well. Thinking it’s gonna help me a ton!!!

Google Wave-I really think the collaboration aspect of Google Wave is going to be well worth the time to read through the threads. If you don’t know what Google Wave is then check this out and if you’d like an invite then let me know in the comment section below.

But what about you? What device/technology would you be up a creek without? What do you think the most important piece of technology will be for you in 2010?

E-Reader

I have seriously been thinking about buying a digital reader. It seems a bit weird to me though. I’m not gonna lie, in this area of my life, I am pretty hesitant about being ahead of the curve on technology.

I mean I love books. I love the smell, the feel of the pages, and the feeling you have when you see exactly how much you have read by the size of the wad of paper on the left side of your thumb.

But knowing that I will probably make the switch sooner rather than later, here is a write-up that might help you make a decision.

Comparison of Nook & Kindle

Takeaways: Love the lend a book, like the added bonus of offers for being in a barnes and noble bookstore, and love the ability to add storage space.

Can’t you see my bookshelf of memory cards full of books stored on them? 8)

Maybe someone can use this…

I know I don’t post alot of my production stuff, but I thought this might help someone. The following video is week 1 of a set of 8 week Basketball Devotions for 1st and 2nd graders. We had a volunteer draw some pictures of key parts of the story. I scanned those pictures in and used some simple keyframe animations to help “illustrate” the story. I used Motion 3 for this project but the keyframes could have been done in another video editing program just as easy. Anyway, this was a year ago and gives you a great alternative to professional illustrations!

Review of OLD SCHOOL

OLD SCHOOL, originally uploaded by jcisonline.

Old School is a series that was an incredibly huge win for us.

Goal for this series-try to provide some answers to some basic questions that they might have about the Bible.

6 weeks
1)What is the Bible?
2)How do I use my Bible?
3)How did we get our Bible?
4)What is the Bible about?
5)Why is the Bible Important to me?
6)How do I read my Bible?

We introduced an “Old School” game called Bible Drill. It allows kids to begin to get comfortable with their Bible by searching through it to find books in a race format. I’ll tell you a little secret. by using candy as a prize. This game has become a favorite game for our kids and I’m totally serious, like unbelievably serious.

Anyway another fun element we introduced was something that we called Morning Announcements. We had kids play the role of news anchor and introduce the lesson. We would also have a staffer aka an adult, play a role as a person at the school. Pretty funny. Kids loved them, cool way to introduce some good questions.

Great series. I’ve heard stories of kids reading their Bible, with their journal in tow, answering questions about how the Bible is structured and understanding the role of the Bible in our communication with God.

Big W for us. Great series. That is all.

GLO

John Saddington said everything that I wanted to say about GLO!

Main thing I will add is WOW!

Skye Jethani

Nines has released their videos online!

Here is Skye Jethani who I thought did an excellent job talking about the fact that we equate “large with legitimate”. Skye is the author of the Divine Commodity

Will the Handout Die?

bring change handout, originally uploaded by iwearbrown.

Couple reasons for this post today. Number one, I feel like the way that we communicate in the church is changing and this specific topic is especially important in #kidmin. Number dos, I wanted to promote this guy’s stuff, it’s absolutely incredible.

Especially this piece.

Sorry for the digital drool I left all over the place, anyway…. Where was I? O yeah the handout :)

Let’s talk framework first. In Children’s Ministry we have 3 basic audiences: Parents, Volunteers, and Kids. Pretty simple unless you wanna get super sophisticated and talk about non-involved parties and your pitch to them but we’ll stray from that for the time being.

3 audiences.

Generally the handout pieces in #kidmin is for Parents and Volunteers.

But two things are happening in culture. Primary communication is becoming more and more digital and we are still in a bad economy.

So digital pieces are cheaper and you don’t have the waste of paper and old information laying around :p the problem. The apparent communication problem:

Will people go online?
What if people don’t go to the website?
Not as effective as print, not as easy as print, not as purposeful as print. (all myths I think, but hurdles nonetheless)

The church is very raw in communicating online but especially in Children’s Ministry. So is it time for the handout to die? Or am I just too progressive?
