Here’s a question from a reader about a new space/facility for their preteen ministry and I thought that you could help her out. Here is her question:
I was wondering if you could help with a quick thought or two concerning utilizing a particular space for preteens. Our mobile church has relocated to a Skating Rink / Play Station for Sunday morning and Wednesday night church. The preteen group of 8 – 10 students have been assigned the laser tag room. Naturally it is a dark environment with blacklight as well as fluorescent light and plenty of barriers providing lots of chopped up space. There’s barely a spot for all 10 students to sit together.
So thinking creatively, what comes to your mind on how to utilize the space for preteens on a regular basis for Sunday morning?
Here are a couple of my thoughts; but, I would really like some inspiration from others:
- When dividing into small groups, use cubby hole sized spaces for separation and privacy.
- Use the blacklight and cubby hole sized spaces for a mystery theme / hunt. Not sure how though.
- Invite the children’s church kids in every once in a while for the preteen students to present a blacklight puppet song / object lesson, etc.
We will be using the whole skating/ playstation facility for outreaches, family day events, etc. But, I need some ways to promote Sunday mornings with preteens in the laser tag room. Could you throw me some ideas that come to your mind if you were faced with this? I don’t have anyone at the moment to sit down with and brainstorm ideas.
So I thought that this would be a fun way to brainstorm and a chance to really help someone in Preteen Ministry.
