So I went to the doctor on Wednesday after a pretty violent vomiting episode on Tuesday Night. I felt bad and looked worse. I had a meeting with another church on Thursday that I was so excited about going to and didn’t want to miss it because of a “minor” setback.
At the doctor they informed me that I had a stomach virus and that I needed to rest and drink plenty of fluids. I thought “rest”? I need to work and do stuff, not sit in a bed all day. They hooked me up to an IV and gave me some meds and I sat there for about 45 minutes. It was glorious. I have never been waiting for doctors and felt great about it. I desperately needed rest and didn’t even realize it.
This post isn’t meant to be long but here are some suggestions on why you might need to just take a rest. You, your family, and your ministry need you to get some.
1. You will get rest either voluntarily or forced later on
This stomach virus forced me to rest. You should be smart and get some rest on your own before you are forced to. It will happen, it’s up to you to figure out how it happens until it’s too late.
2. Your brain operates better when you take a rest
I mean this article from the art of manliness on the benefits of napping should tell you a lot. It’s good for you and if you want to give your best it’s something you should consider doing often.
3. You are more creative when you are rested
sleeping today = creativity tomorrow
It’s not rocket science. Your brain needs rest, your body needs rest and besides those two things, you need rest. It’s important for you to take a rest. Do it while you have a choice too.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have some more rest to get.
How do you make rest a regular part of your routine?
