Bible Reading Plans

antique bible 2, originally uploaded by Shannta.

I hope that you had an incredible new year. 2010 is going to be incredible for sure and to get you started on the right foot, I’d like to point you to a resource from Lifechurch.

Lifechurch.tv started a site called youversion.com for this reason:

YouVersion represents a new frontier in LifeChurch.tv’s efforts. We aren’t just building a tool to impact the world using innovative technology, more importantly, we are engaging people into relationships with God as they discover the relevance the Bible has for their lives.

And they have a new resource on their site for those that want to soak in some more of God’s word. They have a list of Reading Plans that vary by length of time and content and are a great place to start 2010!

Check them out and let them know exactly how much you appreciate by being engaged more in God’s word than ever before.

Birthday Wish List

Dinosaur Birthday Cupcakes, originally uploaded by abakedcreation.

Ok…so I was gonna tell everyone what I wanted for my birthday, which is exactly 2 weeks away, and some wishes and dreams to accomplish over the next year but then I ran across something so incredibly interesting that I decided to change my entire post content to show it to you. Unbelievably funny.

I was searching for autograph copy and then to my eyes amazement on Google it ended with “of the Bible”!

This link led me to a Craigslist page. Very funny and probably illegal but I laughed. Hahahaha

Piggybacking off of Pudge’s Post

Sorry for the ridiculous alliteration there but first read this post by Pudge. Then think about this. Number one what is our goal in #kidmin or any ministry for that matter.

My goal as a teacher is 1 Timothy 1:5 “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” [NASB]

  1. So basically, I want to teach kids to love purely out of a result of their overflowing relationship with God
  2. Sound doctrine or (a good conscience)that comes directly from their personal relationship with God and reading and study of the word of God. Very interesting to do a study on the word conscience in this passage check it out;)
  3. And last sincere faith (deeds, works, acts of service, etc.)

Now with these goals in mind we have been pondering how do we push kids to their Bibles? How do we push them closer to Christ? Are there hurdles that we can remove in order for kids to get in the Bible?

We have pondered so many things:

  • Graphic Bibles
  • Sorta a baseball/Yu-Gi-oH (culturally relevant)card to get kids to read passages
  • Bible Hero Action Figures
  • Videos
  • Online readers

I am wondering if the thing Pudge is talking about is doable. Hulu is an incredible tool but more so imagine how much kids are on the computer. Webkins, Dragonball Z reruns, Webisodes, etc.

How can we put something tangible together that will grab kids attention and get them to come back again and again? Can it be done? Should it be done? Is there another way to do something like this?

Let me hear your thoughts.

Manga Bible

So I went to Barnes and Noble the other day with the in-laws. I was checking out some books and was looking for a chain reference Bible. It was a cool tool that my boss had that we used when writing curriuculum. Anyway as I’m looking for this Bible this couple rushes straight up to a Manga Bible.

Is this how kids will read the Bible in the future? on TwitPic

If you don’t know what manga is here is a link that will tell you what you need to know. Basically it’s like a comic book. The couple then complains about “the dumbing down of God’s word”. Here is what I want to know from my readers.

Is this dumbing down of God’s word or something different. What do you feel about this idea of a manga Bible? Again if you don’t know what Manga is please click the link before you comment.

Please Pray this weekend

We are starting our Christmas Curriculum on Sunday for our Elementary School. We are praying for God to allow these kids to see Jesus as more than just a character in a story, more than just a name, more than just a man, but our Savior who lived a life FOR US! We are always praying for our kids to get truth. Because the Truth of God changes lives. Imagine as my friend Patti Jo Mackey said “What if kids grew up living without all of the lives of religion, life, and experience and instead live their life (entire life) based on the Truth of God’s word…”

So I am asking you to pray and pray hard that our kids will receive God’s truth this week and everytime that we have an opportunity to. That God will allow us to raise up students of God’s words and workers and leaders all working together for the kingdom of God right now. Not waiting on an age, stage, or position. Our kids have what they need to live for God and that is Him! I just pray that we get out of the way and let them get Him without us getting in the way. Please pray, pray, pray, and pray for our kids this week. It’s a big week.

Catalyst Recap

Incredible two days at catalyst last week! I was so challenged, encouraged, and motivated by the many people involved in the conference. I am so incredibly blessed to be where I am, doing what I am doing, and serving the God that I serve.

I will try and recap some of the thoughts that really challenged me over those two days and would love to have a dialogue about them. I am so thankful that a conference like this exists to speak to leaders, young leaders.

One thing that I had a problem with, however was the fact that there wasn’t a Children’s box for us to check. There was a Youth worker and lots of other positions available for choosing, but not in Children’s ministry. I am not insanely mad or upset but it did make me think, why is it like this? Is it because there just aren’t many leaders in Children’s ministry? Or because they wouldn’t invest enough to go to Catalyst? Or how about because maybe while students are our future, or are the present as my friend J.R. Lee would say, children are more babysat in churches than really confronted with spiritual issues and challenged to make a difference when they are young?

I don’t know but I do know that hopefully, God will allow me to make enough of a difference in the lives of kids to where these questions dissappear from my thoughts and yours.

Anyway as I climb off of my soapbox be looking back here to see some opinions of what I heard at Catalyst.

I love God’s Word!

So today I’m reading and David is still hiding out. Earlier God had told David that He would give the enemy over into David’s hands. Saul heard where David was hiding out. They were looking for David and Saul needed to “relive himself” (MSG).

  1.  that is hilarious.
  2.  he goes to relieve himself in the same cave that David is hiding in.
  3. David goes to kill him and has a AHA moment.
He instead cuts off a piece of his robe and brings it back to his men and said God followed through on his promise but I can’t kill God’s anointed. God followed through in a very interesting way but it wasn’t the victory that David initially wanted.
He felt humbled by God’s follow through and as a result put even more faith in God to go up to Saul and humble himself and give up. Give up to the man that was looking all over the country trying to kill him. The man who got super ticked at his son for helping his best friend escape certain death. I am envious of the change in heart that David has at this moment and in the heat of the battle in what could be the greatest relief of his life David listens.
O God help me to listen to you in the midst of the storm and in the victory. I am so thankful for your faithfulness and guidance continue to lead me in this process called life.
